Honestly it probably doesn’t.
HMB, if it really increases the rate of muscle growth, will contribute to your metabolism. Even at rest, muscle tissue takes a lot of calories to maintain – this is why it’s easier to lose muscle than it is fat – since our bodies have been through millions of years of starvation.
Following this logic – more muscle = more calories burnt every day at rest = less fat on your body…
But, there’s been relatively no research to show HMB really helps, and a handful of information that shows it doesn’t really help… Don’t expect miracles unless you’re lifting and doing cardio.
Theoretically, HMB allows the body to stay in an “Anabolic” (tissue building) state longer, and decreases post micro-trauma catabolism (IE the period of tissue decay that accompanies EACH AND EVERY workout you do). This leads to less trauma associated muscle loss, and faster/larger muscle gain. Again though – this is in theory, and hasn’t really been proven.
if it “burns fat” then its one of 2 things
either its fake and does nothing
or its a vasodilater or something like that and then its not safe, so don’t take it
nothing that burns fat is good for you or everyone would be taking it and they would sell bottles by the billions, its fake or unsafe
HMB is not a “fat burner” it’s an anti-catabolic. In other words it helps prevent the break down of muscle. As far as I’m aware it has no other pr oven effects (ie in itself it doesn’t build muscle either).
